Assam: 1st International Sanskrit Abhivarsa Udsav Concludes in State (2025)

GUWAHATI: Sri Krishna Rukmini Kalakshetra hosted the closing ceremony of the First International Sanskrit Abhivarsa Udsav: 2024-25 on April 2, 2025, coinciding with Sati Joy Mati Divas and the birthday of writer Bidhan Sinha. The event, themed “Learning Sanskrit through Mother Tongue and Har Ghar Sanskrit by 2050”, aims to promote the Sanskrit language and culture.

The ceremony features an inter-state seminar and the Joy Bhadra Hagjer Memorial Lecture, focusing on associate official language status for Bishnupriya Manipuri, Dimasa Kachari, Hindi, and Sanskrit. The event also highlighted the customary systems of Kalim, Noktelai-Kalim, Kabur, Noktelai-Kabur, Muktiar, Suktiar, Tangulian, Pansong, and Ochai of the endangered Halam Hill Tribe, as well as the Gaddishwar, Rajar Fita, Mikok, Pipa, Giri, Barpatra, Patra, Muktiar, Panjee, Gita-dut @ Lerikula, Kirtan-mapu, Eiga, Senakhoya, Sambhasha, Pala-Sankirtana, Dakula, Ishalpa, Duwar, Bhandari, Rasdhari, Sutradari, Sevari, Arangpa, Meipa, Khalpangpa, and Noukalpi systems of the Bishnupriya Manipuris.

The programme is being organised by Sri Krishna Rukmini Kalakshetra in association with Dimasa Writers’ Forum, Dimasa Kachari Organisation, and Tripura Punjee Halam Hill Tribe Development Committee at Khompal. The event celebrated linguistic diversity and promoted the preservation of endangered languages in India, as declared by UNESCO.

Mukteshwar Kemprai, president of Dimasa Writers’ Forum from Hojai, inaugurated the day-long programme in the complex of Sri Krishna Rukmini Kalakshetra as the chief guest. Sri Dilip Kumar, Chief Editor of Prerana Bharati (a Hindi daily being published from Silchar), graced the occasion as the chief speaker and declared the closing of the First International Sanskrit Abhivarsa Udsav, initiated by Sri Krishna Rukmini Kalakshetra last year. Matilal Barman, president of the Dimasa Barman organisation, attended the seminar as the key speaker and declared the continuation of the First World Endangered Languages Day & Udsav: 2025, another project of Sri Krishna Rukmini Kalakshetra, from March 16, 2025, to September 28, 2025.

The other distinguished guests who attended the day-long programme at the Kalakshetra on the day included Samarendra Jidong, Vice-President of Dimasa Kachari Organisation from Gosaigaon; Nupur Bodosa, Assistant Secretary of Dimasa Kachari Organisation from Khoirabari; Lakhyajit Jidong, Executive Member of Dimasa Kachari Organisation from Udalguri; Xingirdao Kemprai, Borail News from Haflong; Ritesh Kumar from Kuwarpar, Silchar; Shiv Kumar from Bhorakhai, Silchar; Tambaksena Sinha from Chincoorie, Silchar; Dilip Kumar Sinha and Uttam Kr. Sinha from Shantipur; Hari Kanta Sinha; and others. Dinesh Tripura, Executive Member of the Tripura Punjee Halam Hill Tribe Development Committee of Tripura Punjee, Chuta Salgaga Forest Village, Poloihas, attended the programme with a team of Halam artistes under his supervision, including Anima Halam, Meena Tripura, Dipali Tripura, Rahul Tripura, and Pradip Tripura.

Sandhya Rani Sarma, the priestess of the century-old Shikha Thakur Radha Govinda Sevashram (established in 1841-51), where the Pandavas worshipped Lord Vishnu on Garuda, which is worshipped every day with Bishnupriya Manipuri customary rituals on the bank of the heritage river Rukmini, in which, as per legend, once Lord Sri Krishna and His wife Rukmini had taken a holy bath, offered Maha-anno-prasad of the temple to all participants in the temple complex.
