KOKRAJHAR:The 69th birth anniversary of Bodofa UN Brahma was celebrated as Student’s Day across Assam today in a befitting manner. At Thulungapuri, Dotma in Kokrajhar District, the Student’s Day was celebrated under the aegis of ABSU and UN Brahma Trust.
In his speech, President of ABSU Dipen Boro said that the Bodos will always remember his ideology and philosophy, who dreamt the building of a vibrant Bodo society. He said that Bodofa worked and dedicated himself for equal rights and justice for the downtrodden communities. He also said that Bodofa took a key role to establish the Bodos as a master race of the world who worked with his holistic vision and that the Bodos will stick to their stand to fulfil the dream of Bodofa UN Brahma. Boro said that Bodofa was the greatest ideologue and visionary leader of the Bodos. To commemorate Bodofa’s supreme legacy, the ABSU has been working to fulfil his dreams after his demise, and honoured him with the title ‘Bodofa,’ the father of the Bodos. The ABSU formed Bodofa UN Brahma Trust and an award was started in the name of ‘Upendra Nath Brahma Soldier of Humanity Award’ by the Trust and the ABSU.
Boro said that the establishment of UN Academy schools across Assam, construction of statues in the Bodoland region, Assam and India, observation of Students Day by the ABSU, later by BTR Government and now recognized by the state government, Bodofa UN Brahma Marg & Statue in New Delhi demanded by the ABSU and announced by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, preparation for Bodofa UN Brahma documentary history by the UNB Trust and the ABSU, and announcement by Chief Minister of Assam Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma to observe May 1, the death anniversary of Bodofa with state honour at Thulungapuri, Dotma, are the key achievements of the ABSU.
The ABSU President also said that the Government of BTR, giving due respect to Bodofa, launched Bodofa Super-50 mission for the students, and Bodofa Livelihood Mission for Sustainable Development for the growth and development of the Bodos. He thanked Union Home Minister Amit Shah who recently announced the dedication of an important road in New Delhi in the name of Bodofa UN Brahma. He hoped that Bodofa’s statue would come up in various parts of the world.
In his speech, Minister UG Brahma said that Thulungapuri, the burial place of Bodofa in Dotma, was being developed as a state-of-the-art centre of excellence. He said that great people took birth from time to time to reform the communities. Giving example of Sankardeva, Bhupen Hazarika, and Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma, he said that Bodofa UN Brahma was also one of the great geniuses who dedicated his life for the wellbeing of the downtrodden communities. He said that the Government of India was giving due respect to Bodofa recognizing his selfless dedication for the downtrodden communities.
The programme was also attended by MLA Lawrence Islary, BTC EM Ranjit Basumatary, Registrar of Bodoland University Dr Subung Basumatary, Secretary of BTC Phami Brahma, ex-MCLA Jyatirindra Brahma, Chairperson of Kokrajhar Municipal Board (KMB) Pratibha Brahma, and others.
Earlier in the morning, President of ABSU Dipen Boro hoisted the organizational flag while Minister UG Brahma paid floral tribute to Bodofa at his statue followed by homage to Bodofa at his tomb by the Chairman of the UN Brahma Trust and Principal of Kokrajhar Government College Dr Dimacha Dwibrang Mwshahary while BTC EM Ranjit Basumatary planted a sapling.
