Description official descriptions

The animated cartoon comes to life. Gohan, a powerful young boy, has been kidnapped and it's up to you as his father Goku, to find him and destroy those who wish to harm his son.

The game follows an RPG style, with battle elements designed similarly to the style of the cartoon, with fireballs, quick moves and more. As the story progresses, you will learn more about the history of the cartoon, meeting a collection of crazy characters and fighting one-on-one battles over long distances as well as close combat. The ten hour quest will take you to Master Roshi's Island, throughout Earth and beyond. Plus an in-game clock keeps tabs on your time limit to complete the game.

LOVE LOVE LOVE

The Good
This is my favorite Dragonball Z game ever! Honestly, I love it even more than the latest Dragonball Z game I have! I think my favorite part is the music. I love Namek with the little Namekians and I even wrote a book after the Namek in this game, giving names to each of the Nameks there. (Dedan: the child Namek in the most western house, Jedael: the adult Namek outside that house, Charon: the oldest Namek who asks you to save the trees, Tertius: the Namek inside the house Charon is next to, Quartus: the adult Namek farthest east, and Peleg: the child Namek in the house with most of its roof broken off.) I love the old wise man's house, and I wish that was in the Dragonball Z TV show. This game was the very first introduction to Dragonball Z I had and it came free with my brother's Gameboy.

The Bad
I can't be Piccolo, and it has a rather short plot.

The Bottom Line
If you prefer exciting battle games, this is not the one for you. However, if you appreciate good music and have a great imagination; if you love to make your avatar sit in a glade with two squirrels, rest in a mystical wise man's house, or explore an ancient temple on Namek, then get this game! It's wonderful!

It could be better......

The Good
That it was the first DBZ game released in the US. The gameplay was really good and it followed the storyline to the exact point. Also the ability to use different attacks instead of just Ki Blasts.

The Bad
That the story didn't go past the Frieza Saga because it would have been a lot more interesting. I was also disappointed that you didn't get to fight with anyone else other than Goku.

The Bottom Line
A game you would if your an RPG, fighting, or just a DBZ fan.

A shameless cash in on the legendary anime

The Good
Music is nice. A Dragon Ball RPG is a cool idea as you see Goku get stronger as the game goes on just like in the anime.

The Bad
Goku starts off very weak. He will die from crabs, dinosaurs, and wolves in the first area of the game which makes him look like a wimp in comparison to the anime. Stupid quests such as finding a pterodactyl's egg and finding a cat. Punching is useless because it leaves you completely defenseless. King Kai teaches Goku the kamehameha instead of the kaioken and the spirit bomb. Omits a lot of the Saiyan and Namek sagas due to only focusing on Goku. The kamehameha has poor hit detection. All bosses are the same. They will charge an energy blast or try to punch you. Ugly portraits of characters in dialogue boxes.

The Bottom Line
Play this game to see how the sequels are vastly superior to this game.
